Men in ladies compartment

Its just been two weeks since I’ve started travelling by the local trains in mumbai. I would generally catch the old brown one but yesterday (Thursday) I caught the new white one. The station master helped me with the ladies compartment and to my astonishment and his, we saw men, that too in a compartment outside which said “24 hours only ladies”. He made asked a rhetorical, ” How are you guys in the ladies compartment??” But by that time, the train moved on and I had hopped in. I got a place and thoughts poured into my free mind. “Whatever happened to the ladies compartment? The privilege and security they had?” Soon my mind ventured into the positive aspects of this train. “The reason i got a place so soon because it was broader. It was airy. More lights and fans. the seats were more comfortable. The announcements in all three languages: Hindi, Marathi and English were very clear and audible unlike the old train. As these thoughts ended, i heard Churchgate as the next station where I was to get off, I decided to click a picture and got a good one with the 24 hours notice, a guy, the time and date! Next, Im heading to the station master to report this!

Thats really shocking! The whole point of a ladies compartment is a place where women can feel safe and if men are allowed into it then that pretty much kills the point. And as it is the ladies compartments are so small, how are we supposed to find space if men come in them as well?!
