5 Reasons Why You Need To Experience Nanbai, An Affordable Cafe In Panjim, Goa

Nanbai Bakery and Café has been the city’s much-needed affordable cafe in Panjim, Goa. Named after the local Indian baker community, Nanbai, this spot is dedicated to giving back to the local community. The cozy café was founded by Ujjwal; a Panjim local, a passionate baker and a chemistry enthusiast, when he and his friends longed for a homely place to hang out at, regularly. Now, it has also become my go-to place. To make it yours too, here are five reasons why you need to experience Nanbai now.

Specialty Food & Drinks

Nanbai serves reimagined delicacies such as the Chorizo Puff, Wild Garlic Bagel, and Mushroom Babka French Toast. This is the ultimate opportunity to try local specialties like Goan pork sausages – Chorizo, the lesser-known vegetable – wild garlic, and the incredibly soft French toast with a unique twist. Oh, and just wait until you take a bite into the croissant and discover that beautiful web; it’s love at first sight. Their dark mocha is a local favourite, not overly sweet or chocolatey, yet well-balanced, crafted with coffee beans sourced from the neighbouring Ainmane.

Feels Like Home

True to the idea that gave birth to this affordable restaurant in Panjim, with comfortable seating and relaxed vibes, it’s just like you’re sitting in your living room. Experience the slow pace of the neighbourhood, watch the greenery outside in the quaint streets of Panjim, and you’ll forget you’re even in a city. You start by ordering at the counter and then are served at your table as you continue your conversations. And as you start savouring the food, the feeling goes beyond the visuals and taste; the love with which it’s made is what really feels like home.

Farm To Table & Back

A lot of the ingredients are sourced from their own farm, located right next to the factory. For some items, such as chorizo and eggs, they come from neighbouring farms. This reduces the carbon footprint of transporting many ingredients, supports local communities, and maintains freshness. The amazing team has managed to greatly reduce their food waste over the years. They utilise bread cuttings in their moist Bread and Butter Pudding. And some unavoidable wet waste is returned to the compost pit on their very own farms. This compost is then used to fertilize the locally grown ingredients you see on your table, thus completing the circle.

Free Co-Working Space

This budget friendly cafe doubles as a coworking space. It offers seamless Wi-Fi connectivity, comfortable chairs and tables, power outlets, air conditioning for hot days, outdoor seating for cool days, and delicious coffee on the go. Did I mention that there are no daily charges like other coworking spaces? What else could you need to get into work mode and stay in it? So, whether you’re working by yourself, with your team, or meeting with clients, you can do it all here.
